Back in March to kick off Hong Kong’s art week, Para Site was one of the performance programme partners for ‘The Party at M+’. For the occasion, Para Site commissioned ‘Awaken the Skies’, a performance by Melbourne-based multi-disciplinary artist, vocalist, and producer Rainbow Chan. ⁣

The performance, which consists of a collection of original music composition, draws inspiration from traditional bridal laments performed by Weitou women in Hong Kong’s historic walled villages before arranged marriages. Rainbow Chan breathes new life into ancient melodies with the transformative power of pop music, reimagining them through a diasporic lens to weave memories of her matrilineal heritage through the threads of time.⁣

在上個月的「M+歡迎派對」，Para Site擔任表演節目夥伴之一，為香港藝術週拉開了序幕。為了是次活動，Para Site委託現居墨爾本的跨領域藝術家、歌手兼監製陳雋然呈現《一鳴驚天》現場演出。⁣

是次演出的一系列原創音樂，自香港歷史悠久的圍頭村哭嫁歌汲取靈感——傳統的哭嫁歌由圍頭女性於盲婚啞嫁前夕所演唱。陳雋然利用流行音樂的可塑性為古老的旋律注入新生，透過流散經歷的視角將其重新想像，以此回溯並編織她透過母系傳承的回憶。⁣
